It’s Year of the Rat! And There’s No Better Way to Celebrate Than Design Night’s Limited-Edition Modern Red Envelopes!

February 7th marks Chinese New Year this year, when the New Moon appears and 15 days later becomes a Full Moon.

The Chinese New Year is a time of celebration, reflection and thanksgiving and whether you are Chinese or not, I think it is a great way to stay with feelings of rejuvenation, strength and renewal after the festivities of January 1st.

DESIGN NIGHT designers Dominic D'Andrea and Tram Pham, who live and work in Portland, Oregon created a magical money envelope for 2008: Year of the Rat. The LiXi Gift Envelope is intricately laser cut (inspired by the papercuts of China), trimmed and lined in gold. It is the most beautiful card of this kind I’ve ever seen and surprisingly sturdy for such a delicate little thing.

And you don’t have to wait until February 7th to give it to someone you care about. It can be a very special birthday or wedding card or to anyone born in the years 1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, or 1996.

A website on Chinese culture states that “People born in the Year of the Rat are noted for their charm and attraction for the opposite sex. They work hard to achieve their goals, acquire possessions, and are likely to be perfectionists. They are basically thrifty with money. Rat people are easily angered and love to gossip. Their ambitions are big, and they are usually very successful. They are most compatible with people born in the years of the Dragon, Monkey, and Ox.”

They are available online in packages of one, six or 12 cards or email Dominic and Tram at hello@designnight.com to place your order.

2008 only happens once in our lives and you’ll never get a card like this again.

Don’t miss your chance.
