Honeywell Bluetooth Smart True HEPA Allergen Remover - Have A Happy, Healthy New Year

Years ago, a Honeywell Air Purifier transformed my home.

Now a mega version - Honeywell Bluetooth Smart True HEPA Allergen Remover - has arrived and I couldn't be happier.

Once the cold weather appears and you can't have the windows open to let in fresh air, the air gets stale and it starts to feel like everything is close, no matter how spacious your layout.

The Honeywell Bluetooth Smart True HEPA Allergen Remover comes with innovative new features that change everything.

The top of the unit includes your command centre: a very cool advanced electronic touch screen control panel where a simple touch is all it takes to schedule and set your preferences.

There are so many purification levels to choose from:

- Germ
- General Clean
- Allergen
- Turbo

You'll also want to get familiar with the VOC Sensor, which automatically controls the unit based on the VOCs in the room (I'll get to those in a moment).

This console is super smart - You can operate the purifier according to the pollen and mold levels in your area and it will even notify you about the outside pollen and mold levels nearby. The Proximity Sensor can automatically turn air purifier on when you are within Bluetooth Smart range and off when you leave. You can do everything from set schedules to receive filter change reminders. There's even and dimmer switch, in case you find the small, soft blue lights on the unit too bright.

What takes this purifier to the next level is the Bluetooth Smart App with advanced features that allows you to connect to and control it from an app on your phone (available for Android and Apple). I scoffed when I first saw the feature - how lazy do you have to be to not get up and walk to the next room to change it? I still feel that way. But then I realized that you can enable it from farther away - It works within 30 feet. So let's say you've been running it on "allergen" - a complete godsend if you have furry ones or a roommate that resembles Pig-Pen from Peanuts. But you're on the first floor and you want to now give a room on the second or third floor a "general clean" or rid it of VOCs. Now you can without having to traipse up the stairs. Not so much laziness as an amazing time saver.

The app also offers additional features which you won't find on most air purifiers, such as proximity sensing for auto shut-off/turn on, air quality alerts and auto-operation based on conditions in your location.

How effective is it? The True HEPA filter effectively captures up to 99.97% of microscopic allergens as small as 0.3 microns. Which means if you have furry ones, lots of dust (this is why you never look behind your dresser drawers, bookshelves, or under the bed - am I right?) or are sensitive to airborne pollutants and allergens, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it. And it's not just me singing its praises - Honeywell Air Purifiers are the number one brand recommended by allergy docs.

Here's how it works: A fan sucks in the air. The room's ether goes through the activated carbon pre-filter, trapping large particles and absorbing VOCs, gases and odours. The air then continues through a HEPA filter that captures the really small particles - dust, pollen, pet dander, smoke, mold spores, etc. Filtered, cleaner and fresher smelling air gets circulated back into the room.

So let's talk about those VOCs. Volatile organic compounds  are hazardous chemicals emitted through the air. Many products contain organic solvents includes household paints, cleaning products, even cosmeticsThis purifier is one of the best ways to ensure those are a thing of the past in your home, office, and workspace.

See, it's not just useful at home. Imagine how toxic your workplace/garage/cottage is. You'll want to get this in there right away to clear the air.

And it's not just about the toxins. It's about the smell too.

I appreciate that the unit helps to remove odours. Anyone who knows me knows I try and keep a clean, fresh smelling house. At the same time, I like to cook and some of my favourites lately are steamed cauliflower topped with spicy sauce, thick seared pork chops done in pickle juice (not only is it delicious, it marinates) and stir-fried bok choy with as much garlic as I can cram into the wok.

On more than one occasion I've forgone cooking because I've just cleaned and the house smells amazing and people are due to arrive any minute and the last thing you want to do is undo all that work. So crazy I know, but it's the truth. Now I can cook to my heart's delight. I just run the air purifier in the kitchen for a short while, and no one will know I've even been near the stove.

But it's more than just cooking smells. Sometimes the house just gets stale. You need something to freshen things up without resorts to incense, fragranced candles, room sprays or anything else artificial that will add a scent. It doesn't take long before the house smells and feels as fresh as you'd opened the windows.

This model is made for large rooms (up to 310 square feet) which works well for homes with open concepts like mine. It also is powerful, so no matter where you place it, you're going to see results. Sleek in shiny black, it doesn't take up much room at all. The console is so quiet, I completely forget it's on. The only time I hear it is when it's amped up to allergen or turbo, but even that I find a relaxing whir and white noise to work to.

And it comes with a 5 year limited warranty.

My house doesn't just feel cleaner and healthier - it is.

And if that isn't the best gift, I don't know what is.
