Chef Salt - It's Like Having A Professional Chef in Your Kitchen

The more I cook and review restaurants, I've come to realize the importance of salt and seasonings in our food and how it's often these ingredients that lift a dish from being mundane to truly spectacular.

What I like so much about Chef Salt is that it brings together fantastic salts with herbs and spices specially selected by 3 experts - Andrew Schloss, David Joachim and Mark Bitterman - so you can get on with cooking a gourmet meal without having to futz around measuring out ingredients. Because let's face it - we'd both love to spend all day crafting our meals, but at the end of the day, we just want food that tastes good that we can get out on the table in a reasonable amount of time.

What sets Chef Salt apart from the crowd is the ingredients are carefully grown and harvested in small batches by experienced farmers. This means that Chef Salt delivers great taste without any fillers or artificial seasonings like those found in your grocery store. And before they were brought to the public, they were, in the words of the creators, "painstakingly developed and meticulously perfected, every flavor of Chef Salt is the product of over 50 years of collective culinary expertise (and tastebuds)." The other difference you'll find here is the actual salt - it's the real deal, not the cheap stuff you find in most seasonings blends. Salts from Morocco, Hawaii, Japan, France, Pakistan, Bali, Wales, the Himalayas, Italy, Korea, and coastal Maine were carefully selected and what a difference that makes.

Andrew, David and Mark also made savvy choices when it came to selecting herbs and spices - choosing herbs that dry better with more flavour and spices that you might not have in your current collection. And for salt guys, I really appreciate their use of different peppercorns as well. Like a fleur de sel is different than Himalayan salt, pepper is different around the world too. Many people focus on just the salt, but these pros have dedicated their craft to the otherwise often forgotten about peppercorn too. Place fireworks and a roaring crowd here.

These are artisian, hand-crafted blends that would take you not only a lot of time to make, but a lot of stamps on your passport. I am so grateful to have my food in the hands of such dedicated and skilled folks. Here are just some of their salts:

7 Salt - Various exotic salts, peppercorns and an addition of pure cane sugar is sure to blow your mind. The mix of salt, pepper and sweet is such a brilliant blend that you won't be able to live without it and your guests will think you're a freakin' genius (if you don't tell 'em, I won't)

Bacon BBQ - This blend is so fantastic, you'll be tempted just to eat it outta the jar. Smoked salt, paprika and black pepper (Smoked black pepper? You guys are my heroes!) are tossed with chipotle chiles, vegetarian bacon bits, ground mustard seed, sun-dried tomato, onion and garlic powders with some light brown sugar so you get this deep bacon-y goodness

Bamboo Curry - I crave curry flavours alot, and this is a blend that is rich and complex and way better than any creation I've ever tried to do on my own. Combining Kala Namak rock and Korean bamboo salts, brown mustard and coriander seeds, cumin, turmeric, fenugreek, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, clove, cayenne, tellicherry peppercorns, amchur powder (something I'm now going to add to my panty items, thanks to these guys), cilantro and turbinado sugar, your fish/chicken/beef/veal/lamb/vegetable dish is absolutely ready to be served on any chef reality show - or simply be enjoyed by the family at home. Either way.

You'll want to get yourself the insanely addictive NY Steak, Tunisian Fire and Tuscan Herb as well.

The time and dedication that AD&M put into choosing incredible ingredients and thoughtfully blending them is unbelievable (just read through their ingredient descriptions). And unless you are a pro chef yourself, you just can't achieve this kind of greatness on your own. Which is why you've got to stock your shelves with Chef Salt - it's like having a professional chef in your kitchen.
