Pollen Ranch - Your Food at Home Just Got Restaurant Worthy

As a restaurant reviewer, I am privy to food trends often well before the public, based simply on the fact that eating out every week, I see what ingredients and dishes are making their way onto menus in the city. You probably are aware of many of them soon after I am - Korean tacos, Neapolitan pizza - but there are some that are more subtle that probably won't make the foodie pages as quickly such as grilled caesar salads and fennel and dill pollen.

I've been seeing pollens on restaurant menus these last months and I've got to tell you - they take food to a whole new level. It not only adds a flavour profile that is invigorating, it highlights aspects of the ingredients you're putting it on.

But why have to wait to enjoy that supreme taste explosion until you go out to eat?I have discovered the most amazing pollens, thanks to the tastemakers of Pollen Ranch

Wild Fennel Pollen is extracted from the fennel flowers' umbrels and it imparts this wonderful perfumey licorice scent and taste as well as a heartiness and meatiness, similar to umami. It changes your food in the most wonderful and unexpected ways. I added some onto some lamb pasta I'd made and it turned it into a kind of beef strogonoff dish. How amazing is that? No wonder it's referred to as a "magic" and "secret ingredient."

Dill Pollen, you'll notice, has a much stronger, intense dill taste than the herb, so after you've sprinkled this on your salmon, you'll find it hard to go back to plain ol' dill.

Be sure to get some of Pollen Ranch's phenomenal seasoning blends while you're expanding your spice options.

My favourite is Zen-Sational, because it's like nothing else I've ever tasted. It's so enveloping and enticing that now I feel like my veg are blah without it. At Thanksgiving, I topped roasted carrots done in honey with it and quite honestly, it was one of the best dishes I've ever had - and that was just at home in my little ol' kitchen! It's because of the ingredients and the way they blend and interact with one another:Pollen Ranch Fennel Pollen, Sumac, Sesame Seeds, Orange Peel, Ginger, Fleur de Sel (Sea Salt), Yellow Curry, Savory Leaf and Cayenne.

Divine Desserts  is your new secret weapon. You're in the big leagues now with this amazing array of spices at your fingertips - Pollen Ranch Fennel Pollen, Orange Peel, Lemongrass, Cayenne Pepper, Sour Plum Powder, Star Anise, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Cardamom, Ginger, Vanilla Powder, Cloves and Coriander. Just add a little of this to your ice cream, cookie mix and pies and watch as your guests look at you with a new respect - and leave a generous tip before they leave.

Pork and chicken are forever changed, thanks to Hog Heaven. You'll be so inspired by this unique and intoxicating blend of spices - Pollen Ranch Fennel Pollen, Pecan, Chervil, Fleur de Sel, Pasilla Pepper, Cumin, Annatto and Lemon Peel - you'll start curing your own bacon at home and maybe even open a take-out window at the side of the house serving fresh pulled pork and chicken sammies.

Pollen Ranch is one of the all-time greatest things to happen to my kitchen.
