When I first put it on, most of what I got was fruit - Brazilian Cherry, Passion Fruit Sorbet and Blood Orange. I'm more of a floral gal, so I wasn't quite sure about this at first.

But after a few moments, warm floral scents emerged.  Yellow Tiger Orchid, Mango Blossoms and Orange Hibiscus were revealed. Ooh, that's nice.

Then, the tropical sandy beach feel of Rio Sunset Musk and sexy notes of Honey Amber and Teak Wood unfolded into this exotic, intoxicating blend that really is incredibly captivating.

 
I like that it encapsulates me and anyone who's with me. I feel powerful, and yes, fierce, when I wear it. In that way, it most definitely feels like Beyonce in a bottle.

Dancing with Julianne Hough Is So Much Fun!

I've never watched "Dancing with the Stars," but thanks to celebrity weeklies and television shows, I have heard of Julianne Hough before.

It's not until Dance With Julianne: Just Dance, the new dance workout DVD by Anchor Bay Entertainment that I fell for her.

Despite having won "Dancing with the Stars" twice, Julianne is not pretentious at all - which is what I want in a fitness/dance instructor. I want to be pushed, not made to feel like a failure.  Julianne is sunny throughout the entire Just Dance! Workout, even pausing to make cawing sounds as she does "the bird" and laughing, saying, "You've got to have fun!"

Now that's my kinda girl.

And despite loving to dance, there are some tricky moves here. Luckily, in a Personal Dance Lesson with Julianne, she breaks down the moves for you and works them out slowly so you can get a handle on them before entering into the faster-moving Workout segment.

Back in January, I introduced you to Playboy's new scents for women. Now there's something for the fellas.

Playboy's new fragrance for men, New York Playboy is incredible - musky, woody, but not heavy at all. There is a light citrus that lifts it (limes) and seductive tones (vetiver and vinyl accords) that center it, making it a heady concoction that is decidedly modern, sexy and playful. Just like NYC.

The Essential Thomas Keller Boxed Set Is A Food-Lover's Dream

I just finished reading Knives at Dawn with the 4 food book clubs I run. It's about a cooking competition in Lyon and there was a lot about Thomas Keller in it.

I loved the book, but really enjoyed learning about the man behind such famous restaurants as The French Laundry, Per Se and Ad Hoc. To be devoted and driven like that is fascinating to me.

So I decided to see if I, a non-perfectionist who likes to improvise when cooking, could tackle such a feat as The Essential Thomas Keller - a boxed-set of 2 of Keller's eponymous cookbooks, The French Laundry and Ad Hoc At Home.

They come in such a beautiful case and are hefty, coffee-table style books with luscious photos. These are no ordinary cookbooks, let me tell you.  This is one helluva swank gift, if you ask me. One that your food-lover friends will no doubt actually use.

The French Laundry is Keller's fine dining restaurant, of which so much has been written, including his famous Salmon Cornets (which you can now make at home).  If you want more finesse in your cooking and kitchen, this is a great place to start.

The recipes here are things that I would make for dinner parties or if I was trying on a new technique. After all, White Truffle Oil-Infused Custards with Black Truffle Ragout and Lobster Consomme on Gelee, while triumphant-sounding,  is beyond my usual budget and time allowance for a work week dinner. However, you will learn a ton just reading the book - there's the mushroom lady, the restaurant itself and a ton of new things to try in your own kitchen such as vegetable cuts, cooking lobster, blanching and straining.

Ad Hoc is Keller's "casual family-style" restaurant that serves a single menu every day and the cookbook is most definitely the more approachable of the two. I like his list of tools to have in the kitchen, how to cut a chicken into 8 and 10 pieces and his simpler recipes such as Sauteed Chicken Breasts with Tarragon, Meatballs with Pappardelle. There are lots of helpful hints along the way here too - the only protein you do not let rest, why you should buy whole fish versus fillets and what kind of dish to serve salad in.

There is much to learn from both of these books. Work your way up from one to the other. Refine your methods and ingredients.

You will be a better cook for it.

Be a CharmedGirl With OPI's Spring/Summer 2011 Texas Collection

This post is dedicated to one of my very favourite people - Carmen, resident of Houston, who also happens to love nail polish.

OPI's Texas Collection is super fun and super wearable. 

This new series includes 12 polishes with 6 "sorbet-style" lacquers for Spring/Summer 2011. Instead of the thick, creamy, opaque application that you're used to with OPI polishes, some of these Texans go on like jelly shoes!

Take Big Hair... Big Nails, for example. The first coat looks a lot like watermelon jello  - a sheer summery pink that is incredibly flattering. It fits right in with the soft palettes of the season. But it transforms with the second coat, solid and super bright.  Ooh, I could wear this every week. Light and delicate one week and then vivid and bold the next. Two looks in one!
